I am looking for work.
My name is Saoirse; people also call me boats. I am an experienced systems developer, excited by complex problems and serious about building technology that is empowering to other people.
I am available to work on new projects, full time or part time. I’m open to many different possible work arrangements; I am based in Berlin, Germany. I am happy to work remotely, and I have a lot of experience working with distributed teams.
For the past several years I have worked on the Rust programming language. My most impactful project in this regard was leading the development of Rust’s async IO facilities for high performance network services, but I have also worked on extensions to the type system, Rust’s error handling mechanisms, and other features. I am a member of the language design & library teams. I am a very experienced Rust programmer, having written Rust regularly since before its 1.0 release, and I have unique insight into the language’s past, present, and future.
I feel most engaged when working on complex problems with uncertain solutions in collaboration with a team of likeminded engineers. At the same time, I care deeply about the user experience of the products that I build, and it is important to me that work I do enables other people to use computers in a way that was previously unrealistic for them. I want to give more people greater control over their computer systems, and to equalize disparities in access to the power of computing.
If you think I would be a good fit for your team, please contact me at saoirse@without.boats.
